Nathan Altman, LPC
My approach is informal, spontaneous, and deeply collaborative. I integrate Internal Family Systems, attachment theory, mindfulness, and Somatic Experiencing techniques in my work. I also often using imagery, movement, metaphor and nature in sessions.
I believe we already have the inner resources we need to tackle most of life's challenges. However, our innate sense of energy, wisdom, and confidence can get blocked by our life experiences. Our trauma, unhealthy relationships, how we treat ourselves, and the systems we live in can all act as barriers to our wellbeing. I believe that those qualities of wellness still exist within us, but may lie dormant behind those barriers.
If we approach those barriers with curiosity rather than judgment, we often find that there are parts of us desperately trying to meet a need in our lives. Once we recognize positive intention of these parts, we can find healthy ways to address those needs. This decreases internal conflict and opens space for our innate courage, compassion, and wisdom to re-emerge.
